Career Guidance Day at St Francis Secondary School

Career Guidance Day at St Francis Secondary School

Msichana Uganda hosted a dynamic Career Guidance Day at St Francis Secondary School located in Nkozi sub-county, Mpigi district where we managed to share different topics that are important to the girl-child.

The team was led by our ED, Winifred Nakandi who talked to the girls about the benefits of setting goals and the various methods they can use to properly achieve them while in school and also after school.  A few girls also stood out to answer various questions and gave examples of the careers that they were interested in whilst also sharing their experiences in the schools and how they’ve managed to navigate their challenges to reach their desired careers.

During the career guidance day, we discussed the importance of Sexual & Reproductive Health where emphasis was placed on the challenges girls in rural areas face related to teenage pregnancies and menstrual period challenges. We discussed with the girls how they can be able to overcome the challenges they face during menstruation since some of them do not have and cannot afford sanitary towels to use which affects their school attendance and overall confidence. In addition to that, all the girls from the school were provided with reusable sanitary pads at no cost which will help them especially those who cannot afford them due to certain challenges.

The session was a resounding success, with attendees leaving with newfound knowledge, resources, and a sense of empowerment. It served as a reminder of the power of education and the importance of addressing these often-overlooked issues in our society.
